BARCELONA NIGHTLIFE

Here’s our guide to where to be and be seen in buzzing Barcelona.

Marsella

The oldest bar in town.  You’ll find Marsella in the Raval area of the city, and if any bar in Barcelona will make you feel the history of Barcelona’s drinking and late night scene then Marsella is it.  Here the house drink is Absinthe, and tourists join hardened locals to drink the night away with this hallucinogenic drink, while working girls go about their business outside on the dark winding streets.

Chupito’s

As the name suggests, this place’s speciality is shots.  It’s got a little toursity recently, but the imagination of the owners in making up original new shot flavours is insatiable. Shots are also cheap, and there’s over 300 to choose from!  Ask for a ‘Monica’ and your friends watching will enjoy it even if you don’t..You’ll find Chupito’s in the Barri Gòtic area of the city.

Passeig de Colón, 8

Can Eusebio

One of Barcelona’s cheapest bars and eateries. You can get a draft beer for 1 euro, and although the tapas they serve up is not the best you can get around (by a long way) it’s cheap and all dishes are under 4 euros.  Perfect place to go on a hangover.

Vila i Vilà, 84

Robadors 23

Found in the up and coming Raval area of Barcelona, Robadors 23 have free live music every night.  Jazz on Wednesdays, Flamenco un Sundays, DJs make up the rest of the line-up.   It’s an authentic place and their back wall is a mange-style mural by one of the many local graffiti artists.

Mojito

The best place in Barcelona to dance a bit of Salsa.  The crowd can be a little snobby, but guys if you’re looking to find yourself a spanish senorita, the Mojito is the place for you.  Famously attracting some of Barcelona’s best lookers, you’ll need to learn at least a few steps before you turn up here!

Carrer de Rosellón, 217

Ovella Negra

A student and backpacker institution, Ovella Negra or Black Sheep is hidden in a tiny back street not far off the main drag La Rambla.  Considered by some to serve the best Sangria in town, they also have 5 litre kegs of beer for around 25 euros which you can put in the middle of the long tables and chat with the strangers around you.  This place is heaving by 12pm so make sure you turn up a little early to get your seat to see the night in from.  Staff are less than friendly so order in bulk and avoid contact..

C/ de les Sitges, 5

Manchester

Serving up great Mojitos, cheap beers and the best 80s and 90s Rock and Indie bands, from Joy Division to The Smiths. You’ll find Manchester in the Gothic area, not far off La Rambla.

Carrer de Milans, 5

sub rosa barcelona

Sub Rosa

Seriously cool bar, just behind Placa Reial.  Bar staff are friendly and interesting and their cocktails are excellent and very strong. There’s a sado maso feel to the place, with erotica plastered around all four walls, and their red light attracting passersby like some 19th century brothel.  Make sure you check out the toilets while you’re there.

23, Carrer de Rauric

Opium Mar

This is Barcelona’s most popular nightclub. Not only do you get to dance your little booty away into the wee hours of the night here, it also features some of the best-looking people you’ll ever see anywhere. If you’ve been backpacking through Europe and got a bit tired, Opium Mar’s beautiful people great drinks, and amazing music will recharge you.

Mirablau

Lodged in the Tibidabo Mountain, Mirablau is easily one of the most exclusive and selective clubs in Barcelona. You might have to sweet talk your way into this place. Most people who make their way to this lounge club do so not for the drinks or the music or even the crowd, most people who want to soak up the Mirablau ambience do so because of the fact that you can see amazing views of Barcelona from this lounge club. It is definitely a once in a lifetime experience.
