How to arrive

From Termini station:
Alessandro Palace Hostel is located a short 5 minute walk from Termini train station.

1. With the train tracks at your back, exit Termini Station by Track No.1 on the right hand side of the station.
2. Make a left on Via Marsala, then take your first right down Via Vicenza.
3. Continue down Via Vicenza, until you reach #42 on the left side of the street.

From Fiumicino Airport (Leonardo da Vinci):
Follow the signs for "ai treni" to the platform & buy a ticket for the non-stop train to Termini (Leonardo Express). You can purchase from either the ticket window, vending machines, or tobacco store near the platform. The Leonardo Express leaves every 30 minutes.
Duration: about 30 minutes

A slightly cheaper (but slower) option is to take local train that has the final destination of either Orte or Fara Sabina. It will stop at a few small local stations heading into Rome, but IT DOES NOT stop at Termini Train Station. You need to get off at Tiburtina station (about the 8th stop), and then follow the directions "from Tiburtina" and then "from Termini". Trains leave approximately every 15-30 minutes.
Duration: about 1hr-1.5hrs

IMPORTANT:
Don't forget to validate your ticket with the little orange or yellow boxes before you get on the train!
If you take a taxi, it is highly recommended to take it from official airport taxi stand, not private ones.
Duration: about 30-40 minutes (depends on traffic situation)

Another easy way to reach city centre from Fiumicino is to take a shuttlebus which departs after every flight. We recommend Terravision or SIT shuttle service.
Duration: about 50 minutes
Terravision: http://www.terravision.eu
SIT bus shuttle: http://www.sitbusshuttle.com

From Ciampino Airport:
The easiest way to reach city centre from Ciampino is to take a shuttlebus which departs after every flight. We recommend Terravision or SIT shuttle service.
Duration: about 45 minutes
Terravision: http://www.terravision.eu
SIT bus shuttle: http://www.sitbusshuttle.com

The blue Cotral Bus service connects Ciampino Airport to the Anagnina metro (underground) station and costs approximately. Tickets can be purchased at the vending machines located at the bus stop or inside the airport. Once you arrive at Anagnina, buy a metro ticket and get off at the Termini stop (about the 15th stop). Follow the directions "from Termini"
Duration: about 1hr-1.5hrs

If you take a taxi, it is highly recommended to take it from official airport taxi stand, not private ones.

From Tiburtina Train Station:
Follow the signs for the Metro (Underground). Take Linea B (Line B) in the direction of Laurentina and get off at Termini station (the 4th stop). Then follow the directions "from Termini".

Metro tickets can be bought from either vending machines or tobacco stores located inside the train station. The Metro runs approximately every 5 - 15 minutes, depending on the time of day.
Duration: About 10 minutes

From the GRA (Grande Raccordo Anulare):
Exit at Tiburtina. Keep going straight until you reach Viale Regina Margherita; turn right. Go straight until you reach Viale dell'Università and turn left. Follow this street until it ends at Viale Castro Pretorio. Turn right on Viale Castro Pretorio. The second left will be Via Vicenza. N° 42 will be on your right hand side, after the intersection of Via Vicenza and Via Palestro.

The worst place to stay!!
Bedbugs everywhere and staffs don't care about it at all.
I got bedbug bites every night I stayed in this hostel. The worst part was staff's reaction towards the situation. I had bites every where in my body and they kept asking if it's mosquito bites or allergies.
Bedbug bites are very obvious and you should know what it looks like if you are working in a hostel.
I trusted famous hostel website and booked rooms in denmark, prague, vienna and Rome but I am never going to trust this website again.

This is a great hostel for those travelling alone or in a group. The bar downstairs has a great atmosphere and the staff is friendly, and they all know a great deal about the city. There are tours you simply must involve yourself in for the richest information on Vatican City - cheers to Alexio (I think that's his name)!

I had a great time at alessandro palace the staff is very friendly and helpful. The location close to Termini makes it a perfect stay for interrailing and getting around in Rome by Metro or on foot :)And there is a several activities going out from the hostel from walking tours to pub crawls. Plus the rooftop terrace is a great place to chill and relax. So overall a great hostel.

Stay was fine. Beds are comfortable. But whole building is very noisy, no sound proofing (even in the form of a door separating the stairwell from the corridors) so you heard all the noises of people coming and going through the main door. Wifi: you get 1 hour per day, pathetic for a capital city and for any place in this century.

I stayed at the Hostel Alessandro Palace in July of 2010. I was there at a great time, during the World Cup Final! I loved the bar atmosphere and the World Cup watching parties. At the time, the elevator was being renovated and they were having problems with their air conditioning. However, the hostel itself is very nice and a short walk from the main Termini metro station. One staff member in particular, Márcio, was very friendly and loved to meet the travelers! If you're looking for a fun hostel in Rome that is a great place to meet people but isn't too much of a party (a place you can have fun but actually get some sleep!), this is the place for you! This is the best hostel I've ever stayed in! The facilities, people, rooms, bar, atmosphere, cleanness and location are perfect! We have padlocks to buy there, change money machine, lockers, telephone cards (very very easy and cheap call to other country), wake up call when you are leaving the hostel (is perfect for deep sleepers to prevent you lost the plane...). Five minutes walking from the Termini Station, is very easy go to every where in Rome by metro or walking. I liked also the video in youtube explaining how to arrive from Termini Station to the hostel without getting lost, is very useful! I recommend this hostel to everybody who's going to Rome!

We stayed for just one night when we first arrived in Rome. The building is gorgeous, and our stay was great. They were repairing/installing the elevator while we were there so we did have to hike up and down the stairs. We were in a room with 8 other people and the room and beds were clean and comfortable. There was free wireless, as well as computers to use for a fee. No laundry, no access to towels (to rent or buy).

This is one of the best hostels in Europe, and has one of the best locations on the continent. It is less than 5 min to the train station that will take you to any major attraction in the city for 1 euro. Stay here if you want to have a good time and a nice place to crash at night. The bar is awesome too, and has a pretty good base of young people most nights with cheap drinks. Stay here when your in Rome, you won't regret it
