Interlaken - Balmer’s Herberge

For a perfect mix of drink offers, big beats and the chance to party hard with your fellow travellers you’d be hard pressed to find better than Metro. Balmer’s (one of Off Track Planet’s Top 10 Biggest Party Hostels) houses the Metro Bar and Nightclub, bubbling away in the basement, it’s one of Interlaken’s most popular nightspots.

Munich - Euro Youth Hostel

After a good beer? Where else but Munich? Not only is it the home of Oktoberfest but also the bar at the Euro Youth Hostel. With karaoke, live bands and DJs to keep you up through the night, their happy ‘hour’ also runs from 6-9pm everyday. And hey, if beer’s not your thing they’ve got Jagermeister on tap.

Rome – Alessandro’s Palace and Bar

Alessandro’s in Rome adds a secret ingredient to their bar – free pizza! But be wary, free pizza only lasts so long so get in early. Set within traditional Roman style architecture Alessandro’s is a great spot to socialise with fellow travellers over a bite to eat.

Amsterdam – Flying Pig Uptown

A lively bar and an ideal place to while away a few hours with a drink or two. You can also while those hours away in the adjoining smoking area. Amsterdam is obviously renowned for certain things and the Flying Pig caters to this with a quiet, chilled and comfy spot for smokers. If you’re looking for something a little more energetic the Flying Pig Hostel Downtown puts on plenty of live music.

Madrid – Cat’s Hostel

A party hostel with a bar to match. Hosting tons of events, including their famous ‘Paella Party’ where you’re treated to a free, delicious Paella dinner, The Cave Bar is a great place to start a night out.

Bruges – Bauhaus Hostel

On a par with Munich for its mammoth selection of beers, Bruges, and in particular the Sacre-Coeur bar at Bauhaus is going to have everything the beer connoisseur could wish for. They’ve even been known to occasionally stock the 2006 and 2007 Beer of the Year from the Trappist Abbey of Westvleteren.

Sorrento – Seven Hostel

Another highly recommended rooftop bar is the terrace at Seven Hostel in Sorrento. With a rooftop solarium it’s a relaxed but fun place to grab a sunset drink and take in the panoramic views of the Gulf of Naples and Sorrento Peninsula. And on those rare occasions when the Sorrento sunshine is absent you’ll find another bar and restaurant inside.

Rimini – Sunflower Beach Hostel

Promising the cheapest beer in town, this lively and energetic bar lays on a host of evening entertainment to keep you busy – toga parties, live music and weekend parties. The fact it’s a stones throw from the beach is also a very big bonus.

Corfu – Pink Palace

Pink by name and pink by nature. Expect to find pink toga parties, pink ouzo and, depending on how long they’ve been on the hostel’s private beach, some pretty pink partygoers. The bar’s open 24 hours a day and when it’s not in the pink it’s organising themed parties and club nights.
