What to eat in Granada

Bodega la Antigualla

Although their Tapa selection may be less exciting than some of the places here in Granada, this is probably one of the cheapest.  For an Alhambra beer, you’ll pay around 3 euros. And all drinks ordered come with a Serrano sandwich and a plate of chips.  If you’re hungry after walking around all day then this is the place for you!  Order a few more drinks and you can try out their cheese and meat platters and the other things on offer on their menu.

Café Elvira

This bar is one of the loudest and busiest on our list but is well worth a visit.  Set in the hipster area of Granada, the customers are a mix of students, artists, and rastas.  Their tapas is surprisingly excellent and they have a few inventive and unusual dishes on offer.  If you’re lucky you might also get a flamenco show if you can stand up after a few of the generously potent house drinks.

Bodegas Castañeda

This locals’ favorite is considered by many to have some of the best tapas in town.  Although as in many places in Granada, the Bodegas Castaneda offers free tapas with every drink, for a more complete menu do not miss out on their tapas menu, as some of the plates on offer are unique and delicious.  They have an excellent wine menu or for something light in summer time their sangria is fresh and aromatic.  Try their Smoked Salmon and Avocado tapa and you won’t be disappointed.

Los Diamantes

Small and intimate, Los Diamantes is a locals’ favorite. Their no-frills fabulously fresh seafood is the catch of the day.  The place is extremely busy so don’t expect to wait on hand and foot, just grab your order when they call it out and devour the specialties on offer. Prices have stayed low but don’t expect to sit down and have a relaxing meal as this is not what Los Diamantes is about.  If you can’t get enough then you can also order top-ups from their reasonably priced menu.

What to eat in Granada is not only limited to Tapas, however.  Their long history of Arabic and Islamic influence means that the city is full of excellent Moroccan and North African restaurants.

Restaurante Arrayanes

An Arabic classic set in the atmospheric Islamic quarter of Granada.  They make delicious homemade lemonade and their Arabic menu has some of the most delicious tagines and lamb dishes to be had in the city.  It’s a little more on the costly side, but once you’ve had a free lunch at the tapas bars you can spend a little more on the delicacies on offer here in the evening.  Take up their offer for tea after dinner! It comes accompanied by some gorgeous little cakes with dates and honey.
