Porto has many great spots to enjoy a drink, whether you’re on the Gaia or Porto side. After all, overlooking the river is where everyone wants to be! Bars with a view are in high demand, especially on sunny days. And luckily for you, there are quite a few of them in Porto. 1. Base

You’ll love Base in Praça de Lisboa, near the Clérigos Tower. It’s a garden bar, and perfect to enjoy at sunset. It’s a popular place amongst the local community, so here’s your chance to mingle with Porto’s people… or dogs since the bar is also pet friendly! Sit under these trees, in the grass, in one a beanbag, or pull up a chair at a table. The cultural offerings vary, and their activities include: music, visuals, architecture, and/or sculpture. We love their strong environmental responsibility, encouraging clients to not leave cigarette butts in the garden, and serving drinks in reusable cups! Please note they only serve drinks, so make sure you get a bite to eat before heading here.

2. Guindalense FC

While exploring the winding streets of downtown Porto, make sure to stop in this bar for a drink. They have lovely views of Don Luis Bridge and cheap drinks, with beer starting at 1€.

Not only is this place a great snack-bar, it’s the head office of the Guindalense Football Club. While you don’t have to like football to come here, you might have to be in athletic shape to physically get here. We haven’t counted the steps of Escadas dos Guindais, but there’s quite a few, so be prepared to work out a bit for your drink!

They normally have tables to sit down and chill on the terrace, but during special events, they are removed and the bar turns into a spontaneous club. You can check out Guindalense FC from Monday to Friday to see what’s going on in the river area, and if you’re not in time for the sunset, they’re open until 11:00 pm (or midnight on Saturdays).

3. Terraza Lounge 360º

Terraza Lounge 360° is located in Espacio Porto Cruz, and is dedicated to Port wine. And since you’re in Porto, you should experience it for yourself! But if you want to have a drink of something else, no problem. They have an extensive menu and also serve delicious food. The building itself has 4 floors with different usages: a 360º experience taking you on a Porto wine trip from Gaia to Douro and the origin of their wines, a tasting room, an indoor restaurant, and an outdoor bar!

The outdoor bar is where you’ll enjoy a magnificent panoramic view with your delicious drink. We’re certain you’ll love the view from here, including the cable car which passes above. Join their DJ Sunset Sessions every evening – you’ll be glad you did!

4. Mirajazz

If you’re looking to spend an afternoon in a relaxed atmosphere, enjoying a glass of wine while listening to jazz music, then be sure to check out Mirajazz.

You’ll find it close to Muralha Fernandina, a historical point of reference. To get there you’ll have go up (or down) one of the typical old Porto staircases. Make sure to go during sunset (well, this is what all the blog post is about, right??). While they don’t offer full meals, they do offer small plates, such as sandwiches, cheese, and bread.

Aside from a stellar sunset view, they also have bands playing Jazz, Samba, and Bossa Nova on weekends, holidays, and special dates. Concerts start at 5:00 pm on the outside terrace. Keep in mind that in bad weather conditions, concerts are typically cancelled. When they don’t have live music, they’re make up for it with incredible playlists and inviting atmosphere.

Good prices, wine, cold local beer, happy hour, very friendly staff, and an amazing river view. What else could you possibly ask for?

5. Miradouro Ignez

Our final recommendation for sunset bars in Porto is Miradouro Ignez, where you can also enjoy beautiful views of the Douro river. While it’s not that close to the centre, it’s a must visit if you’re in the area of the Crystal Palace Gardens. And even though the Gardens are not technically a bar, we recommend it for a romantic walk with viewpoints, fountains and peacocks.

Enjoy a drink on the deck, and while this place might be a bit more pricey than the others, it’s still rather affordable. You won’t regret your visit come sunset!
