Paris is famous for a few things: fashion, museums, culture, and expensive food and drink. But with gastronomy being a big part of the travel experience, you’ll want to indulge in some delicious French bites. But like any destination, there are budget options if you know where to look! Whether you want to grab a quick, sweet bite, or have a full meal, you’ll be able to get by in Paris on a budget with the help of our guide. We’ll take you all over the city and show you our top tips for eating and drinking in Paris on a budget!

Paris Food Guide on a Budget

Latin Quarter has many great budget friendly options for dining!

Quick Tips to Eat in Paris on a Budget

Before we get into where to eat in Paris on a budget, we want to share some of our best tips to help you experience the most and still spend the least!

First and foremost, booking accommodation that includes breakfast is a great way to cut costs no matter where you are. Most places will offer at least tea, coffee, bread, yogurt, and some spreads, which is enough to fuel yourself in the morning. It’s also worth booking hostels which offer free meals, or at least a guest kitchen so you can prepare you own meals, which can seriously cut costs.

Another great way to cut costs is to make lunch your main meal. You’ll notice that most restaurants have special lunch menus where the item prices are typically a little cheaper than the dinner menu. And the portions are virtually the same, so it’s a pretty great budget tip. A few euros saved can go a long way over time!

1. Latin Quarter

Located in the 5th arrondissement, near the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Pantheon, the Latin Quarter is one of the liveliest neighbourhoods in Paris. And the gastronomy options here are seemingly endless. Despite its popular reputation among tourists, you can grab lunch here for roughly 10€ a person, which includes a drink. And if you’re vegetarian, you’ll be pleased with the amount of options in the area! For a nice lunch, we recommend heading to Krishna Bhavan restaurant and trying the Biryani Legumes. You can see this delicious meal pictured below!

2. District X

If you arrive in Paris at Gare du Nord, you’ll know this neighbourhood. Like the Latin Quarter, there are tons of budget dining options here. It’s a great district to dine in if you want a break from the traditional French menu as it has tons of international spots. For roughly 10€, you can get a starter, main, drink, and dessert, which is more than enough to ensure you’ll walk away full! Head to China Express Nord and fill up on a yummy meal!

The district around Gare du Nord is also full of several budget friendly options!

3. Montmartre

The next neighbourhood in our Paris food guide on a budget is the picturesque Montmartre. Home to Sacre Coeur, the I Love You Wall, and the iconic Moulin Rouge, it’s also full of things to eat, drink, and see. Located high up on a hill, it offers panoramic views of the city, but more importantly, it’s full of great dining options which are also budget friendly. You will find a variety of restaurants, many of which offer Parisian style menus. If you’re after something extra cheap, you can grab breakfast from 4€ per person. This includes a typical crêpe with coffee, and let’s be real, it doesn’t get more Parisian than that! To have this exact breakfast, head to Cabaret Chez Ma Cousine.

4. Happy Hour all over the city

There’s nothing quite like indulging in a glass of wine or a fancy cocktail in a city as ritzy as Paris. And what’s a guide to Paris and food on a budget without mentioning some sweet drinks? While the normal prices can be a bit high, there’s always Happy Hour! No matter where you are in the city, you can grab a few glasses of whatever your heart desires for a budget price. Most places start their Happy Hour at around 5 or 6 PM until 9 or 10 PM. You can typically get most beers, wines, and cocktails from 4-5€. It’s a great way to kick off the party, or a romantic night on the town!

5. Supermarket

And our last tip on our Paris Food Guide on a Budget is to head to open-air or supermarkets. Whether you want to have a picnic in a park, or cook a meal in your hostel’s guest kitchen, these spots are a great way to feed yourself on a budget. Supermarkets in Paris include Carrefour, Monop, and Lidl, and you can find prepared dishes for 3 – 5€ if you’re looking to get some food on the go. There are also tons of open-air markets throughout the city which sell local products you can indulge in.

You can organise a picnic for 10€, and enjoy beautiful views in either the Luxembourg Gardens or Tuileries Garden. And if you don’t mind the crowds, you can head to the Eiffel Tower and have a picnic on the lawn!
