South Spain Beach Guide

South Spain is known for a lot, especially their incredible beaches! The summer’s can get hot, and we want you to take this seriously. Temps can go anywhere between 35°45°, so pack and dress accordingly. We recommend linen clothing, and a hat to help keep you cool! And of course, a bathing suit, sunnies, and flip flops will be helpful at the beach!

Not sure where to go? Don’t stress! We have all the best tips in this South Spain Beaches Guide!

1. Malagueta, Málaga

Málaga’s famous beach is a short walking distance from the city centre, making it an attractive city to visit in summer! Imagine immersing in the culture, learning about Picasso, eating paella by the sea, and then going for a swim! The perfect plan when visiting Málaga!

2. Playa de Calahonda, Nerja, Málaga

If you’re more of a nature person and prefer a beach away from the city, we recommend Nerja. There are several small beaches (Calas) here, and it’s easy to get to from Málaga! You can take the bus or use Bla Bla Car. For more info and local tips on Málaga, read our Ultimate Málaga Guide!

3. Monachil Waterfall, Monachil River, Granada

This is one of our fav spots! Monachil is only a 30 min bus ride from Granada. It’s a small village surrounded by mountains and is where the Monachil River begins. Do the Waterfalls Hike and take a dip in crystal clear waters. You should also try some of the organic food and beer in the village after your refreshing swim!

4. Hot Springs, Santa Fe, Granada

Hot springs in summer? You bet! This is a great night time activity and a cool alternative to a night out in Granada. Spend your day wandering around the Albayzin, the moorish neighbourhood, buy a nice bottle of wine, and head to the Hot Springs after sunset. You won’t regret it!

5. Río Guadalquivir, Sevilla

If you’re down for some water activities, Sevilla offers that! You can kayak down Spain’s longest river, and if you’re feeling brave enough, take a dip in the river if you need to cool down!

6. Lagos del Serrano, Sevilla

Located in the mountains north of Sevilla, this paradise is ideal to cycle, walk, and swim! You can get there by bus for a day trip from Seville. For more info and local tips, read our Ultimate Sevilla Guide!

7. Cádiz

This small city is one of the oldest in Europe and has a few great beaches within walking distance. Try the delicious “Pescaito frito” in the bars next to the sea, enjoy a big glass of Tinto de Verano, and take a dip in the sea.

We hope you liked our suggestions. Spain is packed with beautiful cities and amazing beaches. If you love sun and fun read our full Iberian Adventure Route.
