Italy is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, and for good reason. Scenery, history, and food culture are all huge selling points for this gorgeous nation, but what about cars? From Rimini to Piacenza, here’s our guide to the Emilia Romagna Motor Valley.

Lo que debe hacer

To break it down for you, this is what you can find at the Emilia Romanga Motor Valley: 4 international race tracks, 6 specialised training centres, 7 manufacturers, 11 exciting museums, 19 impressive collections, and 188 sports teams. No wonder you’ll need to plan your time well if you expect to see it all! Keep reading and we’ll highlight the top places to visit.

Ferrari

Ferrari – Valle Motor de Emilia-Romaña

Whether you consider yourself a car enthusiast or not, everybody knows Ferrari. Founded in 1939 by Enzo Ferrari, it is one of the most prized and expensive exports of Italy. The headquarters are located in Maranello, and offers lots to see and do for its visitors.

Ferrari started as a racing car company, and is credited with being the oldest and most successful team in racing history. We suggest visiting the museum to get an in depth look into Ferrari’s impressive history. They also host regular exhibitions, so make sure you consult their website before you go.

If you want to do a factory tour, you’ll have to purchase a museum ticket first. Your tour will take you from the museum to the original factory, passed the Fiorano Track, and finally through the Ferrari Campus. Please keep in mind there are only 2 departures per day for the tour (12:30 & 13:30), so plan accordingly!

For the thrill seekers, you’ll want to check out the Autodromo race track. Ever dream of racing around a track in a Ferrari? Well, you can do it here! Present your museum or factory tour ticket and you’ll get a discount on your circuit ticket. For 35€, you’ll get your own Ferrari and can drive around the track for 15 minutes of exhilarating fun! If you want more time, it’ll cost 2,50€ for every additional minute. It might be a bit expensive but is one of the best experiences in the Emilia-Romagna Motor Valley.

Ferrari

Lamborghini – Valle Motor de Emilia-Romaña

Another fan favourite from Italy is Lamborghini. We weren’t kidding when we said the Emilia-Romagna Motor Valley is a top destination for car enthusiasts. Founded in 1963 in Bologna by Ferruoccio Lamborghini, it was established to compete with the likes of Ferrari. While Lamborghini mostly stayed away from race cars, they certainly compete with Ferrari in the world of luxury cars. While it is now owned by the Volkswagen Group, it is still an integral part of Italian culture.

We recommend you start your day at the Museo Ferruccio Lamborghini, where you’ll get to learn all about this famous brand. You can visit on your own, but we recommend a guided tour to get the most out of your experience. The museum covers a range of topics, from the foundations of the company, to personal effects of the family, cars, and more. We’re sure you’ll thoroughly enjoy this stop in the Emilia-Romagna Motor Valley.

Ducati – Valle Motor de Emilia-Romaña

The Emilia-Romagna Motor Valley isn’t just about luxury and racing cars; the region is also famous for motorcycles. Ducati started as a family company in Bologna and produced radio components. By 1952, the company introduced their first motorbike, which was more like a scooter. Fast forward to the present and Ducati is one of the most respected motorcycle brands in the world.

El Ducati Museum is a great experience in the Emilia Romagna Motor Valley. Tickets are 17€, and will take you through the history of the the famed motorcycle and racing bike company. Like other companies in the region, you can also visit the factory to see how these incredible bikes are made.

Celebrities in Emilia-Romagna Motor Valley

We don’t expect you to come to Rimini for the celebrities if you’re here for the cars, but it’s possible you might bump into one! And we’re not talking about Hollywood celebrities; Rimini is the home of Valentino Rossi. Never heard of him? Maybe you know him better as, ‘The Doctor’. He can often be spotted around town, and it’s not uncommon for fans to come in hopes of a glimpse! If you’re lucky enough, maybe you can too!

Where to Stay

The Emilia-Romagna Motor Valley starts (or ends) in Rimini, which happens to sit on the sea! Sunflower Beach Hostel sits on the sunny Adriatic coast and is our top recommendation for accommodation in Rimini. Located only 200m from the beach, and a short bus ride to the city centre, Sunflower Beach Hostel is where you’ll want to be! Choose from dorms or private rooms, which include a balcony! Whether you start or end your vacation in Rimini, you’re going to love it!
