Qué ver en Bratislava

Qué ver en Bratislava

While Prague might get a lot of the attention in this part of Central Europe, make no mistakes about it-Bratislava can more than hold its own against other tourist destinations. Here are just some of the great travel spots awaiting you in Bratislava.

Bratislava Castle

If there is one place you shouldn’t skip or overlook while visiting Bratislava, it is this place. What’s not to love? Not only does Bratislava give you a sense of history regarding the city because of its ancient history-it used to be Roman fort-but it also offers a beautiful view of Bratislava. Situated on a hill high above Bratislava city proper, Bratislava Castle is one of the oldest standing castles in the world. In fact, this castle’s been standing since the ninth century. Amazing.

bratislava castle

In addition to the awe-inspiring castle walls and structures, Bratislava Castle is well-worth the visit because of the museums it contains. If you want to find out a lot more about Slovakian culture, art, and history, this is the place to do it. In fact, one of the museums houses more than 3500 works of art. Definitely worth the visit. In fact, if your schedule allows, you should spend a whole day here and cap it off with the beautiful panoramic sunset view of Bratislava.

Primatial Palace

Erected in 1778, this is a building that’s considered to be one of the most, if not the most, beautiful structures in all of Slovakia. Looking at its immense scale and awe-inspiring decorations, you would probably agree. What’s there to see here? Well, first the huge plaza and the pink walls. Unusual and attention-grabbing, one can’t help but wander inside and gaze at the huge tapestries of the rooms, the massive chandeliers, and the Hall of Mirrors.

While nothing will match the grandiose scale of Versailles’ Hall of Mirrors, the Primatial Palace’s Hall of Mirrors holds its own. Originally designed as the residence of the archbishop of Bratislava, the Primatial Palace is an eternal testament to Slovak design, class, and elegance.

The Slovak National Theatre

There is just something majestic and classy about Bratislava’s buildings. After all, it was the recipient of Austro-Hungarian imperial largesse during its heyday. Enjoy the plaza or square nearby as well.

Housed in an amazing neo-Renaissance building, the Slovak National Theatre was based on a Viennese design. Built in the 1800s at the height of the power of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Theatre reminds the viewer of the power, grandeur, and elegance of Slovakia’s imperial past. Positioned next to a great square, the Slovak National Theatre is a great place to take pictures-especially at night. It also holds its own in terms of ballet and philharmonic offerings.
