Basic Infos

It is a city bursting at the seams with history and culture, but deciding where to go and what to see in Berlin can be tricky, especially if you are only there for a few days.

Let’s walk? Book your Walking Tour in Stockholm and explore this amazing city! Every day at 10:00am.

Check the most amazing and awe-inspiring places to visit in Berlin can be found right here:

1. Brandenburg Gate

Arguably Berlin’s signature attraction, the Brandenburg Gate was commissioned in 1788 by King Frederick William II of Prussia as a sign of peace. During the Cold War this landmark turned into a symbol of division in Germany, but it is now considered an emblem of unity.

2. Holocaust Memorial (Holocaust Mahnmal)

It might look like a collection of lifeless concrete blocks on first inspection, but in many respects this is how the Nazi’s cruelely viewed victims of the Holocaust, as meaningless numbers and not real people.

3. Berlin Television Tower (Fernsehturm)

For a 360-degree panoramic view of the city, head to Berlin Television Tower, which the locals call Fernsehturm. As you make your way around you can read information plaques about notable sights on the horizon. Book in advance to ensure entry!

4. Reichstag

Due to its location on the Mauerstreifen, which was the military zone between both sides of the Berlin Wall, the Reichstag was a sleeping giant for many years. But ever since the government decided to return after the reunification, it has been restored and modernised magnificently.

5. Museum Island

This UNESCO-listed Word Heritage Site is home to five of Berlin’s most impressive and important museums. If you had to pick just one, the Pergamonmuseum features some incredible archaeological structures such as the two-storey Roman Gate of Miletus and a partial recreation of the Pergamon Altar.

6. The East Side Gallery

Although most of the Berlin Wall was demolished between June and November 1990, a one-mile stretch known as the East Side Gallery is still standing. Here you can see how artists interpreted the feelings of East Germany during the Cold War.

7. Charlottenburg Palace

It is worth heading out of the city centre for the day to visit the Charlottenburg Palace. Constructed on behalf of Friedrich II as a castle for his wife Sophie Charlotte in 1695, this imposing structure features a mesmerising interior and its picturesque gardens aren’t bad either.

8. Olympic Stadium (Olympiastadion)

One of the few buildings that still showcase Nazi architecture in Berlin, the Olympic Stadium began life as a horse-racing track. However, it was rebuilt for the 1936 Olympics where black American athlete Jesse Owens won four medals and thus disproved Adolf Hilter’s ideas about racial inferiority.

Visiting all of these locations on short Berlin city breaks might be a tall order – but don’t worry, you’ll catch what you missed on your next visit to this amazing city!
