Trendy London – the 5th stop of my month long Famous Hostels Eurotrip!

London is one of the most popular destinations to visit for all types of travellers! With its iconic red telephone booths, double-decker busses, and underground stations, you’ll always be reminded you’re in the U.K.!

Getting to London

My journey from Paris to London was one I’ll never forget. With my Interrail Global Pass I took the Eurostar train which runs through the world’s longest underwater tunnel -53,4 km long! Riding at a speed of 375 km/h I arrived in London in just over two hours.

London

St. Christopher’s Inn Village

I stayed at St. Christopher’s Inn Village close to London Bridge. I slept in a 10-person dorm, and each bed had its own privacy curtain. Just like their Paris location, there’s an in-house bar where you can get a delicious meal and yummy drinks! And the location couldn’t be any better!

My Time in London-Part I

My first stop was Borough Market, a lovely indoor food market with the most delicious bread, cakes, teas, and more! I walked from there to London Bridge (looking out over Tower Bridge) and wandered along the River Thames. Even though it was October it felt like Christmas as many of the cafes were decorated with lights!

The next morning I joined a Free Walking Tour from the hostel. The friendliest English girl picked us up and took us to Green Park – our first destination on the tour. This park actually has no flowers, and is actually just green, hence the name!

From there we made our way to Buckingham Palace where we (believe) we saw Queen Elizabeth in one of her royal carriages. It was really cool to see all the soldiers on their horses in traditional clothing.

From Buckingham we walked to Trafalgar Square where you can find the National Gallery. This is where you can see Van Gogh’s famous Sunflowers! We then headed to Big Ben, but unfortunately, the famous clock tower was under renovation when I was there. Better luck next time! The tour ended at the Palace of Westminster.

I met people on the tour and we decided to have lunch at Lower Marsh – one of London’s oldest and best-loved market streets! And it’s all well priced!

My Time in London-Part II

After lunch I walked to Convent Garden, a notoriously arty area of London. I love street performances and you’ll find plenty here! It’s also home to London’s China Town and several international clothing companies. I walked around and went to the National Gallery and British Museum. Hot Tip: all museums in London are free!

I then visited Exmouth Market, one of London’s hidden gems. It’s an upcoming place with lots of cool bars and restaurants. I met a friend there and after some beers we decided to walk to Kings Cross station to see Harry Potter’s famous Platform 9¾!

Goodbye London

The next morning I woke up early to check out and have a final wander around Tower Bridge! I said goodbye to the amazing staff at reception and made my way to Amsterdam. You can read about how Amsterdam went here.
