Famous Hostels Eurotrip: Nice and Monaco

Exotic Nice & Monaco – The 3rd stop of my month long Famous Hostels Eurotrip!

Nice is a colourful city of the French Riviera and looks postcard perfect! I’ve always wanted to visit and was so excited to finally get the chance to see it for myself! It’s also close to Monaco, so you can get another country in!

Getting to Nice

I arrived in Nice in the afternoon using my Interrail Global Pass from Rome. It was a beautiful journey along the Italian and French coastlines, passing through both small towns and big cities.  The train crossed the border between Italy, France, Monaco – I love how you can suddenly be in a new country in Europe without even noticing!

Villa Saint Exupery Beach Hostel

I stayed at Villa Saint Exupery Beach Hostel, only a few mins from the train station. It’s a very popular hostel with a great vibe, a cheap bar, and decorated with art! I was welcomed with big smiles and tons of tips for Nice! Since it was a long day of travelling, I went for an evening stroll on the promenade to watch the sunset.

I went back to the hostel for a beer and met an incredible staff member, Matt! He told me about the Walking Tour he’d be hosting the next day, and after hearing how great of a storyteller he was, I decided I’d also join!

My Time in Nice

There were several other solo travellers at the hostel, and we quickly became friends! They were from all over the world – Ukraine, Australia, Venezuela, Ireland, Colombia, and more! I was surprised how many of us were actually travelling alone, but it also meant we were all after the same thing: just having a good time!

Nice

Matt told us amazing stories, including one about France’s biggest-ever bank robbery in 1932. He took us to Fenocchio to try their famous ice cream, and to the best lookout point in Nice!

After the walking tour, I took a 20 min bus to Monaco and got off at Monte Carlo Casino. I immediately noticed all the expensive luxury cars, and crowds of people hung around them snapping pics. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many at once before!

Not including the Vatican, Monaco is the smallest country in the world, but it can be quite expensive (expect to pay up to 10€ for a coffee)! I walked around for a couple of hours and had lunch at the seaside (I brought a packed lunch from Nice). I returned to Nice after sunset and had some drinks at the hostel bar with friends I made on the walking tour.

Nice & Monaco

Goodbye Nice

After 2 really fun nights and an amazing day I had say goodbye to Nice! I took a high speed train to Paris, and you can read all about it here.
