Famous Hostels Eurotrip: Paris, France

Dreamy Paris – the 4th stop of my month long Famous Hostels Eurotrip!

Paris – there’s never a shortage of things to do! I’ve honestly lost count how many times I’ve visited the French capital – must be somewhere between 15 and 20!

Getting to Paris

With my Interrail Global pass I took a train from Nice straight to Paris Gare de Lyon. It only took 5,5, but I could feel the temperature dropping as we made our way north. After having spent so much time in warmer cities like Athens, Rome, and Nice, I needed to grab my warmer clothes at the bottom of my bag!

Paris

St. Christopher’s Inn Paris Canal

I stayed at St. Christopher’s Inn Paris and got the best welcome I could’ve asked for upon arrival. The two Dutch girls at reception immediately recognised my Dutch passport, and since I had barely met any Dutchies on my travels, I was very happy to meet these girls. They told me about the daily social event at 5pm, held in Belushi’s Bar, also in the hostel!

Guests get a bracelet to wear, which gives you discounts on food and drinks! The bar is also open for locals, so it gives you an opportunity to meet some Parisians! I immediately met a fun group of backpackers and we had an amazing night out!

My Time in Paris

The hostel is well connected via the metro, so my first stop was the Louvre! It’s the most famous museum in Paris and is home to the Mona Lisa.

I walked to the Eiffel Tower through the Jardin des Tuileries and along the Seine, and while it’s about 4km, the scenery makes you forget about the distance! You can visit the Eiffel Tower for free if you don’t want to head to the top. But if you want to see the view, buying a ticket in advance will save you loads of time in the queue!

I then headed to Montmartre to check out another great view of Paris! The stairs at the majestic Sacre Coeur offer an incredible view of the city, and its free! While I love the Eiffel Tower, this is my favourite place in Paris, especially at sunset.

Montmartre was a popular hangout for artists and writers in the late 19th century, and if you’ve seen the film, ‘Moulin Rouge’, you’ll know what I mean! The neighbourhood also offers plenty of charming and delicious restaurants and bistros, so I had some dinner!

After dinner I walked to the Moulin Rouge to see it from the outside. At 90€/ticket, it was way over my backpacker budget! My last stop before heading back to the hostel was Notre Dame, which you can visit for free!

The next day, I went to Musee D’Orsay to see art of all the famous Montmartre artists. Unfortunately the museum employees were on strike so it was closed. Luckily, there was a street jazz band outside so I joined the other disappointed visitors and listened to their amazing performance.

Goodbye Paris

After 3 amazing nights at the hostel, it was time to leave Paris. I took the Eurostar to London, which went through the world’s largest underwater tunnel! To see how London went, you can read about it here.
