The Albertina (Vienna’s will be presenting around 160 works by Henri Matisse and the fauvists in their ‘Henri Matisse and the Fauvists Exhibition’ from September 29th, 2013 – January 12th, 2014. Most of the works of the young artists André Derain, Maurice de Vlaminck, Georges Braque, and Kees van Dongen, who art critics at the time compared with “fauves” (“wild animals”), are available to view for the first time ever in Central Europe in Vienna’s beautiful Albertina Museum.

The Albertina is a Neoclassical style grand Viennese palace . The palace takes its name from the collection’s founder, Duke Albert of Saxe-Teschen (1738-1822), the son-in-law of the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa (1717-80).

It was built in 1744 and houses one of the most important and extensive graphic art collections in the world.
