For lovers of modern photography, you should check out FOAM. Check out their program to see what special exhibits are happening while you’re in Amsterdam. Be wary of the admission price as they only allow you to pay by card, or pre-order your tickets online!
Fancy a beer while you visit a museum? The Heineken Museum is right up your ally! Learn all about the beer’s history and watch the brewing process.
This is the largest art museum in the Netherlands. It’s best known for its collection of 17th century Dutch masters, with 20 Rembrandts and works by Vermeer, Frans Hals, and Jan Steen. There’s even an annex of the museum at Schiphol Airport – where the entrance is free.
Well, what can we say? It’s the world’s oldest sex museum! You’re going to find a lot of nudes, phallic statues, and other art to satisfy your erotic curiosity! It’s essential to see this when you visit Amsterdam!

There really is something to suit everyone who’s looking for a smoke in Amsterdam. Coffee shops are literally all over the city, and aside from cannabis flower, they also serve food and non-alcoholic drinks (because you should never mix cannabis and alcohol)!
All coffee shops have menus where you can choose what kind of high you prefer; sativa, indica, and hybrids are all readily available, as well as special cakes and other sweets! Be careful though because some of the stuff can be much more potent than what you’re used to back home! For a list of the best famous coffee shops and smart (mushroom) shops in town, just ask when you check in! No need to be shy!
Shops and Markets
You’ll find all your shopping needs fulfilled on Kalverstraat and Nieuwendijk, pedestrian streets that run from the Central Station to Muntplein.
Other notable shopping areas:
- Kalvertoren – a huge shopping mall
- Haarlemmerstraat – has plenty of trendy clothing shops
- Waterlooplein Flea Market – the largest in Amsterdam, offering anything from second hand clothes to old records
- Albert Cuyp Market – the busiest and most famous day market
A visit to Amsterdam isn’t complete without a bike ride. The Dutch are basically professional cyclists, so while we encourage you to have a great time, be mindful of other cyclists when you’re on or off a bike! Bikes can be rented for about €7.50 a day from many hostels, but there are tons of bike sharing companies if you just want a few hours of fun!
Most Dutch people speak English quite well (especially in Amsterdam) and they’re usually very happy to help tourists find their way around, so if you get lost just ask! Just remember to always be polite!
Festivals and Events
Amsterdam is known for a good party, so obviously they know how to throw a good festival!
Latin Village Festival
This outdoor festival happens in August each year and presents a great mix of dance and salsa music.
Amsterdam Dance Event
This is the leading conference and festival for electronic music and is held every year in October!
Affordable Art Fair Amsterdam
For the art and culture lovers, we have the yearly affordable art fair.
