Our team at Room Rotterdam is international but also local, and we have been working hard enjoying the city to bring you the best highlights! Here’s our insider tips of what not to miss in Rotterdam. We hope you enjoy!
The Best Bars, Restaurants and Cafes
First up are the best bars and cafes in town; we know what you all want to know! All our team agreed that Witte de With Straat was the best street to explore nightlife and to bar hop, with so much choice you can dip in and out to whatever vibe takes your fancy. A great place to chill out and watch the sunset is from Fenix Food Factory, and you can enjoy food and drinks here as well as just a great atmosphere and the fantastic views. Aloha Bar is also a firm favourite with great food, a tropical vibe and amazing views of Rotterdam. And if you’re visiting our city then you can’t miss out on the famous Hotel New York – so add these as the first on your list!
Our lovely team member Angela is from Westland and arrived in Rotterdam via five years in Breda. She’s now a Rotterdam local and her insider tip for the best unusual place to grab a drinks is the brewery in Delfshaven – Pelgrim. This is a great place to visit and certainly a little different. She also recommends hitting the bars on Witte de With Straat, Bokaal or Shiebroek. For a cosy café bar try Bar Labru and for a slightly different experience, the boat Vessel 1. A great restaurant to enjoy food and drink with outside space and events is Vroesen Paviljoen – check out the blueberry pancakes! For a little more of an evening scene check out Bar for DJs, events, Space Invaders and a great selection of food from their kitchen. For a secret lunch spot that local Rotterdammer Monique loves, there is the outside waterfront spot at Veerhaven.

Where to Eat Typical Dutch Food in Rotterdam
Our team member Solveiga is from Latvia and has been living in Rotterdam for 6 years. She’s crazy about Kapsalon and says it’s the one thing you really have to try here. She has checked out all the places for you and the best for her is at Jaffa on Witte de With Straat. Her personal favourite is the falafel version but we recommend you try them all! Angela’s hot food tip is poffertjes van Seth next to the Market Hall- also one to check out! Team member Melanie is Dutch and from a town nearby Rotterdam, so she knows what she’s talking about when she says it’s all about the KIBBELING! She’s pretty sure it’s the best fried fish you will ever eat, and the best place to try it is the market. Rotterdam local Monique is also a fan of kibbeling and Herring, and recommends the Rotterdam Market on Binnerotte to try the best (open on Tuesdays and Saturdays.)
For Chilling Out
Room Team member Pablo is from Spain and has been living in Rotterdam for 4 years. He’s done the tough job of finding the best places in Rotterdam to chill out and rounded them up for you. He says in summer one of the many beer gardens are definitely the best place to chill and enjoy the weather, or head for the green spaces of Het Park. But for the best secret place – the Deliplein. It’s not known by tourists so you can avoid any crowds! Melanie loves to sit next to the water under the Erasmus bridge – it’s an iconic spot so not so secret, but has a great view!
For Festivals and Events
Monique is our local expert on the festivals and parties in this event-filled city. Rotterdam has a reputation for throwing a good celebration with festivals like the Summer Carnival Parade, King’s Day and Metropolis, but she’s got some other hot tips. She recommends trying the festivals that take place at cool venues Revolt and Annabel. Her personal favourite is North Sea Jazz Around Town and North Sea Jazz at Ahoy. This is a world famous jazz festival and takes place over 3 days in July on the second weekend. Book early because it’s very popular with music lovers! Pablo recommends If you’re here in summer also there are lots of free music festivals in the city that are worth checking out such as the Bluegrass Festival. Melanie likes the Liberation Day Festival at the Euro Mast – not to miss if you’re in Rotterdam these dates!
And as Monique tells us – don’t leave Rotterdam until you’ve experienced the view of the River Maas from a water taxi. It’s affordable and a ‘must do’ experience! We hope you enjoyed our insider tips for Rotterdam, and we hope to see you at Hostel Room soon!
