Ostelli famosi Eurotrip: Atene, Grecia

Athens is the 1st stop of my one-month Famous Hostels Eurotrip!

My name is Daisy and I run My Travel Tricks! I’m travelling Europe for one month with a Pass InterRail Global and staying at Europe’s Famous Hostels! And I start my travels in Athens!

From moment I arrived in Atene, I was in love. It has everything: from ancient temples to modern rooftop bars and stunning beaches – did I mention the amazing Greek food?! The endless summer days, beach parties, and easy connections to the most beautiful islands makes Athens the perfect destination.

Getting to Athens

I actually arrived in Athens a couple of months before my trip started. In early February, I moved to Glyfada, a beach town next to the Greek capital. The start of this trip will also mark the moment I move to Athens. At the end of my Eurotrip, I’ll move to Barcelona. Time to pack my life into a backpack and get going!

AthenStyle Hostel

I stayed at AthenStyle Hostel, located in the heart of the old city centre. It was the perfect way to end my time in Greece as I had actually never spent a night in the city before.

You can walk to all the sites in the city from the hostel, and they even have a rooftop bar with an incredible panoramic view over Athens. They have lockers, even if you decide to leave for a few days and head to the islands!

Additional to these amazing features, they have laundry services, wifi, computers, a cinema, and a lounge area. While I stayed in a female dorm, some rooms have kitchenettes and terraces. And they even have private rooms!

I met Sofia on the rooftop, and she’s one of the owners of this incredible place. She’s a young half Greek, half Italian individual and such an inspiration! After travelling around the word she decided to quit her job as a lawyer and transform an old building into a hostel. When someone like her opens a hostel you can be sure it’s an excellent one with all the facilities you could ask for.

My Time in Athens

I started my visit with the Changing of the Guards at Syntagma Square. If you’re around on a Sunday, you should check out the 11am ceremony!

Afterwards, I went to A for Athens – a rooftop bar with view over Monastiraki Square and the Acropolis. It’s a great place to go before exploring the city to get a perspective and make a plan for your day!

One of the most iconic sites to visit in Athens is the Acropolis. No matter where you are in the city, your attention is always drawn to the site and its 21 archaeological remains. It’s also where the Parthenon sits, and I’ve been lucky enough to visit this place many times!

Tickets are 20€, or free for EU students (with ID). If you plan on seeing more sites in the city, I recommend buying the 30€ pass, giving you access to these sites and more for 5 days!

From the Acropolis I walked to Plaka, Athens’ oldest neighbourhood. It has lots of little streets, shops, and nice restaurants. I went to my favourite street, Stairs of Plaka, where you can get amazing Greek food & drinks for decent prices!

Try Ouzo, a Greek liquor with 37,5 to 44 percent alcohol, and loved dearly by the Greeks! I recommend checking out the local distillery, Brettos if you want to try it!

To complete my visit, I went to Monastiraki flea market next to the hostel. Though the name states flea market, it’s actually a normal street with lots of shops. I bought some cool souvenirs for my friends and family and said goodbye to my favourite city!

Goodbye Athens!

The next day I took the ferry to Italy to visit Rome with my Interrail Global Pass. To see how it went, click qui.
