You’ve probably already read about the magical Arabic neighbourhood of Albaicín, the magnificent アルハンブラ宮殿, or the Cathedral of Granada, but there’s more to Granada than the big tourist attractions. And it always comes with reward: it’s less crowded and has a more authentic feel, giving you an entirely new insight Here’s 5 alternative things to do in Granada for those who like to travel ‘off the beaten path’!

5 Alternative Things to Do in Granada

1. Street art in Realejo

Realejo is the old Jewish district, and is also the home of “El Niño de las Pinturas”, a famous urban artist. Calle Molinos, Calle Pavaneras, some parks, and a few areas near the bus station are worth checking out. Other Spanish and international artists have their work here, like Drew, Yukka, Gata Cattana, Hilos, and Belin.

If you’d rather see it all on a guided tour, you’re in luck. Be sure to check out the Oasis Backpackers Hostel,“Street Art & the Caves Tour” starting every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 5pm.

2. Cave Houses in Sacromonte

This is the second oldest neighbourhood of Granada, and is one of the city’s best kept secrets. For awhile, Sacromonte was the home of Granadian Gypsy culture, artists, hippies, and nomads from all over the world.

So what else makes Sacromonte worth seeing? For one, the breathtaking views of Alhambra Palace make it a great place to visit. You can also see the ruins of the former city walls, and see the best Flamenco shows in the city in Sacromonte. We think we’ve said enough to convince you to spend some time here!

Oasis Backpackers Hostel will take you there every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 5pm on the, “Street Art & the Caves Tour”.

3. Waterfalls in the Sierra Nevada

If you like hiking, you’ve got to try the famous, “Los Cahorros” route! This hiking trail is located in the beautiful and wild Sierra Nevada Natural Park.

The park is located almost 2000 meters above sea level and is well known for its 5 different suspension bridges, various waterfalls, and the, “Tunel de las Palomas”, a cool tunnel cave where the Monachil River runs through.

Many plants, herbs, and some Instagram-worthy goats on the trail will undoubtedly give you an experience like no other. And if you’re not afraid of cold water you’ll also have the chance to take a dip in one of the park’s waterfalls!

Hiking with friends is much more fun, and safer. Oasis Backpackers Hostel offers the Los Cahorros Waterfall Hike every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday at 10.30am.

4. Carmen y Campo de los Martyres

Carmen y Campo de los Martyres is full of birds, squirrels, flowers, and is a great escape from the crowds at the tourist hotspots. This place is a magnificent palace with romantic gardens, Nazari orchards, and was also a home for peacocks in Granada for many years.

The field where the palace was built is called the, Field of Ahabul“, which is where King Boabdil handed over his beloved city to the Christians in 1492.
