I stayed at seven Famous Hostels while travelling with a First class Eurail Pass. Eurail proved to be a convenient and flexible way to travel and accompanied with the Eurail Rail Planner App made organizing the trip a breeze.
It has been almost two weeks since I have been back in Canada from My Iberian Adventure and it feels like it was all a dream. When I found out I would be going on this adventure, I was so excited to have the opportunity to see the varying landscapes of the Iberian Peninsula, along with the different cultures and traditions from the seven different cities I visited all in one month!
I enjoyed every moment of my first class Eurail experience as I relaxed and viewed the beautiful Spanish and Portuguese landscape, all while resting comfortably on the train. Thankfully, I even had somewhere to store my travelling backpack while I enjoyed a few moments without lugging it around the city streets.
Some of the highlights of my Eurail experience included using the WI-FI (on selected trains), riding in the sleeper cabin (where I had some of the best sleep throughout my whole trip) and the delicious lunch I received between Madrid and Malaga! All of which were the exact luxuries I needed after I struggled to navigate to the train station with my heavy bag.
Due to the great rest I got on the train rides, I was ready to enjoy the hostel life at each and every stop on My Iberian Adventure.
A big thanks goes out to the different staff that assisted me throughout my journey, whether it was the ticket agents, stewards, or onboard train assistants.. They were always so helpful, and went above and beyond to provide exceptional care for everybody on the train.
From my first stop in Porto, to my last stop in Seville, I never had a dull moment. The hostels were quite high tech, with a convenient all-in-one key card security system to access the hostel, your room and even your safe or locker!
Every hostel in the Famous Hostel group (that I visited) had activities like, Tapas Tours, Pub Crawls, Free Walking Tours, and Social Hours which allowed me to meet fellow travellers from all over the world! If you have ever wanted to travel solo but are afraid of feeling lonely in a hostel, that should be the least of your worries. Famous Hostels provide plenty of opportunity to meet fellow travellers along your journey. Also to further emphasize this point, the hostels where I felt most at home were those that provided a common seating area. The common seating area allowed conversation to flow and backpackers to connect in a comfortable setting which was essential for me.
Lastly, after staying in seven different Famous Hostels, I’ve observed that they cater to all types of travellers.
For example, the hostels provide printing services for those who rely on their smartphone but may have forgotten that they needed a physical copy of their boarding pass. If you only brought a weeks worth of clothes and you plan to do laundry during your stay, some locations offer laundry services or at least washers and dryers. If you are a light sleeper and there is someone snoring in your dorm room, they offer earplugs for purchase. They even offer the left behind shampoos and shower gels that couldn’t make it back home with their rightful owners.
The staff in every location were awesome and very knowledgeable about the city!
I felt super comfortable approaching the staff with whatever question I had. A special thank you goes to Ana from the Oasis Backpackers Hostel in Granada, for not only helping me keep my cool when I lost my phone, but also for aiding me in contacting spots that I might have left it and ultimately helping me track it down! Muchísimas gracias Ana.
All in all, the Eurail pass was a relaxing way to travel the Iberian Peninsula. The seven hostels I visited were clean, full of activities, had great amenities and had amazing staff that came to the rescue in times of need. I had an unforgettable experience in sharing My Iberian Adventure with fellow travellers from all over the world. Touring around and staying at Famous Hostels locations allowed my #genuinebackpacker experience to be unique every time.
