Glorious Interlaken – the 10th stop of my month long Famous Hostels Eurotrip!
I know a place in Europe which is paradise for everyone. It’s a little fairytale village between two magical lakes, and surrounded by the Swiss Alps. Additional to this, you’ll find cute churches, waterfalls, and the best drinking water in the world! I’m talking about Interlaken!
Getting to Interlaken
From Vienna I took the train to Switzerland using my Passe de InterRail Global. We passed through Austria and half of Switzerland and as you can imagine, the scenery was breathtaking. They were easily some of the best views I’ve ever had from a train!

Balmer’s Hostel
Eu fiquei no Balmer’s Hostel, a place known by travellers from all over the world. The hostel looks like a Swiss chalet, adorned with flowers, a garden with hammocks, a hot tub, and the most spectacular view of the alps!
Balmer’s offers a range of outdoor activities, including: paragliding, rafting, kayaking, hiking (429 trails to choose from!), and skiing. If all that sounds like too much activity, don’t worry! They offer lots of other things, like spas, chocolate workshops, and more!
And for a party, they have a club under the hostel!

My Time in Interlaken
I did something SUPER exciting. I took a train to Jungfraujof, and at 3454m above sea level it’s the highest train station in Europe, and the views are insane. You can walk through snow and even go inside the glacier – it was definitely the highlight of my trip!
Hot tip: Only a couple of train stops away from Interlaken is a little town called Lauterbrunnen. Here you can find a very impressive valley that looks a painting.

The town is in a valley, and is home to 72 waterfalls (some are several hundred metres high!). I visited Staubbach Falls where you can do a beautiful small hike through the mountain and actually stand behind the falls. Afterwards I went back to Interlaken to visit Lake Thun & Lake Brienz, both right next to the town. I can only imagine how nice it would be to jump into the blue water in the summer!

Goodbye Interlaken
After two of the nicest days I packed up and caught the train to my final stop: Barcelona, Spain! To see how it went, click aqui. But in the meantime, I cannot recommend Interlaken enough! Located in the middle of Europe, and home to Balmer’s Hostel, I think everyone should include it on their Eurotrip itinerary!
