Trdelnik

This had to be first on our guide to Prague’s best ‘sweet’ treats. Why? Trdelnik is a famous dessert in Prague and is an absolute must try! But we need to be honest with you: this tasty treat isn’t even Czech, but it won’t stop us from eating and recommending it!

Kolač

This brioche-like treat is next on our guide to Prague’s best ‘sweet’ treats. Initially considered a wedding dessert, they can be found all over the country now and are an absolute dream. While they’re typically made with a poppy seed filling, you can find other flavours such as apricot, blueberry, strawberry jam, and white, sweet cheese. Surprisingly, Kolač isn’t overly sweet, so if you don’t want a sugar crash, this is a great option.

bolos

It doesn’t get any more traditional than Czech buns Buchta. In old Czech fairy tales, heroes baked them before going on a mysterious adventure. These square buns of sweet dough can be either filled with white sweet cheese or home-several varieties of jam. Although it’s not uncommon to go for the plain soft buns that just melt in your mouth. If you want fresh baked Buchty, go to any bakery early in the morning. They tend to sell very quickly, so you might miss out on Prague’s best ‘sweet’ treats if you leave it too late!. We recommend the buns at Antonínovo Pekařství, located in our beloved Vinohrady neighbourhood.

Bábovka

Bábovka is a traditional Czech cake which has been a large part of the Czech pastry tradition since the 17th century. So naturally it made our list for the Prague’s best ‘sweet’ treats! This cake is perfect for a mid-afternoon snack with a coffee or tea. The cake is either sprinkled with sugar powder or covered with chocolate glaze. You’ll find it in any bakery around the corner cafe!

Kremrole

Another popular Czech pastry looks similar to an Italian cannoli! The roll is made of puff pastry and the cream is a soft meringue. Take a stroll to any of the farmers’ markets in Prague to find your well deserved Kremrole. And while they are a very light treat, they’re quite sweet. But don’t let that stop you from picking up more than one. You’re on vacation, after all!

Sweet Dumplings

The last mention on our list of Prague’s best ‘sweet’ treats is actually a main dish! Sweet dumplings (Ovocné knedlíky) are popular among Czechs after appetisers, especially in winter. They’re filled with fruit and served with melted butter, sugar, poppy seeds, farmers cheese, and jam. Plan your day around the city and stop at Café Savoy and enjoy these sweet dumplings for lunch.
