1. Sziget Festival

Where: Budapest, Hungary

When: Early August

Sziget Festival is the largest festival in Hungary and one of the biggest in Europe. This week long festival in Budapest features all styles of music, including pop, rock, electronic, world, classical, and folk. But It’s more than just a place for music, Sziget Festival also offers workshops on various topics & arts, discussions, and more. And the nice thing about the festival is that it’s kept to a minimum. So you’ll want to get your tickets fast as they only sell 1000 each year! Located on Hajógyári Island in Budapest, you have the option to camp out on the festival grounds, or stay in the city. Either way, it’s festival you won’t want to miss out on!

2. Volt Festival

Where: Sopron, Hungary

When: End of June

Two and a half hours by train west of Budapest, you’ll find Volt Festival. Every year at the end of June, this popular music festival in Hungary provides attendees with incredible artists and rocking tunes. Past headliners have included Iron Maiden, Depeche Mode, Black Eyed Peas, Ellie Goulding, and more. Known for their wide variety in music, this four day event is similar to Sziget, but on a significantly smaller scale and a bit more rock orientated music. Like most outdoor summer festivals, there’s lots to do beyond the music. Check out an array of vendors, participate in some workshops, or take a ride on the giant ferris wheel!

3. Balatonsound

Where: early July

When: Lake Balaton, Hungary

Located an hour outside Budapest, Balatonsound is one of the top electronic music festivals in Hungary. You can find a range of genres at the festival, including house, EDM, and progressive music. Past years have seen talents such as Black Coffee, Paul Kalkbrenner, David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Charlotte de Witte, and so many more. If the heat gets to you, take a dip in the lake, or spend a few hours sunbathing on the beach. Balatonsound also has a special boat party for attendees, which is one of the most popular ‘stages’ over the 5 day festival. Dance the night away at one of the many stages, refuel on some great food, and make memories to last a lifetime at Balatonsound!

4. O.Z.O.R.A.

Where: Ozora, Hungary

When: end of July, early August

If you’re more into psy trance and Goa inspired beats, then you won’t want to miss O.Z.O.R.A.! Like any good music festival, it’s held in the middle of nowhere, about 90 minutes outside Budapest. Camp out on the festival grounds, or rent a camper van for the week-long party and all round good time. Beautifully decorated, O.Z.O.R.A. is a festival celebrating music, performing art, workshops, activities, and so much more. The crowd is very international, but the Hungarian Goa music always shows up!

5. Rockmaraton

Where: Veszprém, Hungary

When: end of July, early August

And if none of the above genres are your thing, perhaps this one will be! VeszprémFest is an annual festival celebrating classical, opera, jazz, and world music, attracting people and performers from all over the world. Held in Veszprém Castle, the setting couldn’t be more perfect. The Baroque architecture gives VeszprémFest a distinct feeling you just won’t find at other similar festivals. The five day festival has grown in popularity over the years, and certainly deserves a spot on the list of the top 5 music festivals in Hungary.
