5 Things to Do in Bratislava
Heading to Bratislava? Slovakia’s capital is a beautiful destination, and full of things to do. It’s one of Europe’s best kept secrets, and is a destination you shouldn’t miss!
While it might not be on everyone’s travel bucket list, Bratislava has tons of things to do! The capital of Slovakia is easy to reach from both Vienna, and Prague, so why not make it a point to visit? You can enjoy a slower urban pace here, and still feel like you’re doing so much! Here’s 5 Things to do in Bratislava.
1. Bratislava Castle
If there’s one place to visit in the Slovakian capital, it’s here! Bratislava Castle is full of history, and dates back to the Stone Age! Perched on top of a hill, it’s also a great spot to get a view of the city. You can visit for free if you also have a city card!
2. Old City Centre
Like most cities in Europe, Bratislava has a charming old city centre. Full of winding streets, historical buildings, charming shops, and delicious restaurants, there’s plenty to see, eat, and do here!
3. Primatial Palace
Slovakia was once of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and as a result, is literally full of grand palaces, like Primatial Palace! Erected in 1778, the palace’s pink walls are alluring and photogenic! We recommend touring the inside as well, as you can find loads of historical paintings, tapestries, and more!
4. Slovak National Theatre
For lovers of the fine arts, this place is a must-visit! It’s Slovakia’s oldest professional theatre which houses the three arts of ballet, opera, and drama.
Built in the 1800s at the height of the power of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Theatre reminds the viewer of the power, grandeur, and elegance of Slovakia’s imperial past. Next to a square, the Slovak National Theatre is a great place to take in the arts, and get some pictures for the gram – especially at night!
5. St Elizabeth’s Church (Blue Church)
Our last suggestion for things to do in Bratislava is St. Elizabeth’s Church – also known as Blue Church for its famous blue facade. It’s easily one of the most popular Instagram spots in Bratislava as well. While its not necessarily old, it was designed by Ödön Lechner. If you’re an architecture fan, you might know him as the Slovakian Gaudi!
