There are few cities in the world that can beat the nightlife in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam has become one of the hottest destinations for foreign and local travelers. This city is a perfect location for couples who want to share romantic dates, and of course for groups of friends looking to have fun and hang out, socialize, or go partying in the busy night clubs and local bars.
There are plenty of amazing bars and clubs in Amsterdam where everyone can unwind and drink different kinds of beer and whisky from the different parts of Europe, plus some of Amsterdam’s best homegrown brews.
Hoppe on Spuistraat is wood-cladded and serves the most beer of any of Amsterdam’s bars. It’s also been open for over 300 years so you can sit back and drink in the history of Amsterdam’s beer-loving culture.
If you’re after a true taste of modern Dutch brewing then head to Brouwerij ‘t IJ, where their beer is brewed and served on-site and almost never leaves the building before it fills your glass. Their Indian Pale Ale is a bestseller, plus on sunny summer afternoons you can enjoy a pint out on their terrace, or take their short brewery tour if you fancy a tasting session of all of their home-brews.
The city is full of world-class nightclubs where everyone can party with some famous DJs and plenty of touring bands. If you’re looking for something mainstream then there are plenty of clubs and bars where you can enjoy great drinks and food starting at 10 Euros, perfect for any budget. Some of the most well-known venues for nightlife in Amsterdam include Paradiso, Melkweg, Club Up, Trouw, AIR and Escape.
Lesbian and Gay Nightlife in Amsterdam
Nowhere in the world you will find so many gay-friendly bars and clubs per square metre as in the city centre of Amsterdam. For a taster of what easy going Amsterdam has to offer, check out Church on Kerkstraat and The Warehouse on Warmoesstraat. In late July or early August, Amsterdam is host to one of the most famous Gay Pride events, welcoming over 500,000 visitors to the city every year.
If you’re looking for live music, Leidsplein or Rembrantsplein are the best place to be. Bitterzoet on Spuistraat is constantly packed, and constantly changing music genre so when one night it might be a heavy metal fan’s paradise the next you’ll find it teeming with drum-n-bass lovers. Wintson Kingdom on Warmoesstraat also has some of the best live music in town. Check out Winston Kingdom’s website for more details on what’s on while you’re in town.
But Amsterdam really comes into its own on King’s Day on the 27th April. During the celebrations of the country’s monarchy, the city comes to life in a sea of orange and the streets are filled with people eating, drinking, dancing and making the most of a day off work. During the day the streets of the city become one enormous flea market and during the night the hundreds of thousands of inhabitants and tourists stream into the bars and clubs of the city centre.
