Famous Hostels Eurotrip: Vienna, Austria
Romantic Vienna – the 9th stop of my month long Famous Hostels Eurotrip!
Vienna is one of my favourite cities in Europe! With stunning palaces, famous Operas, delicious schnitzels, and the Donau River, it’s worth a visit! I actually lived in Vienna for 5 months during my studies, so I was more than happy to return!
Getting to Vienna
From 柏林 I caught the night train to Vienna. As soon as I boarded the train I met some backpackers who were also Interrailling around Europe. We soon ordered the first beers and we had a very fun night. I love how easy it can be to make new friends while travelling!

I arrived at Hostel Ruthensteiner in the morning, and I immediately felt at home! It has a great lounge, an amazing garden, and a big table for communal meals!
Seeing as it was a rainy day, many guests decided to spend the day there! It was incredibly easy to meet people here, and didn’t take long for our coffees and teas to turn to beers and wines!
My Time in Vienna-Part I
Having prior knowledge of Vienna, I knew museums and attractions were pretty expensive. But not with the Vienna City Pass, which gave me access and discounts for two full days.
I started in the old city centre and visited the imperial apartment of the former emperors, located in Hofburg Palace. This is actually where the current Federal President of Austria lives!
I then walked to the Museum Quarter, where you can find some of Vienna’s best museums! I recommend the Leopold Museum, Natural History Museum, and the Art History Museum. The buildings and their contents are incredible!
After a long day of sightseeing, I went back to the hostel and cooked dinner. I ended up meeting two other female solo travellers, and we ended up having some beers together!
My Time in Vienna-Part II
After a little wander around the Parliament, Vienna City Hall, and Stephansdom, I took a Sightseeing bus to a cool, expressionist landmark called Hundertwasserhaus. If you like Gaudi, you’ll surely love this. In the middle of some historical buildings you can find this fun, artistic apartment complex. It’s really cool to see and if you’re interested in the artist, you can also check out his nearby museum!
Afterwards, I jumped on the bus and headed to the Giant Ferris Wheel at Prater. It was so cool to see the lights twinkling from above!
On my last day, I woke up early to go to Schloss Schonbrunn, one of the most famous palaces in Vienna! For all the history buffs, it used to be the summer residence of Princess Sisi.
You don’t have to go inside the palace to admire its beauty as the gardens are stunning enough! But I actually didn’t go for the palace – there’s also a zoo! I had never seen pandas before, and made it my mission to see them.
After the zoo I went to Schloss Belvedere, another beautiful palace with stunning gardens. The palace also houses a museum, with paintings by Klimt and Monet.
Goodbye Vienna
