Day 1 – Jerusalem’s Old City & Mahane Yehuda Market

Declared as an UNESCO World Heritage Site the Old City of Jerusalem is roughly 6,000 years old. This is where you’ll find Holy sites such as the Dome of The Rock, the Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and many others. Start at the famous Jaffa Gate and wander through the magical, mesmerising Old City.

Western Wall

Make your way to the Western Wall, one of the Holiest sites in Jerusalem’s Old City and a must-see with only 48 Hours in Jerusalem. Remember to bring paper and a pen with you to write a little letter or a few wishes and leave in the cracks of the Wall. Every couple weeks, a Rabbi comes to collect the notes and buries them to keep the memories, wishes, and prayers alive.

Church of the Holy Sepulchre

This church was the last stop on the Via Dolorosa and is where Jesus was crucified and laid to rest. The Church is an absolute must-see while in Jerusalem, and is venerated as one of the holiest spots for Christians. Within the church, you can see the tomb of Jesus, and pray at a monument marking the spot of his crucifixion.

Temple Mount (Dome of the Rock)

Next, head to Temple Mount, also known at the Dome of the Rock. This beautiful Mosaic dome is one of the most recognisable in Jerusalem. Visiting hours for Non-Muslims are between 07:30 – 10:30 and 12:30 – 13:30 in winter, and from 08:30 – 11:30, and 13:30 – 13:30 in summer. The queue to get through Mughrabi gate can get incredibly long but it’s well organised so it moves reasonably quick.

Mahane Yehuda Market

After you’re done touring through the Old City, head back to Jaffa Gate and follow the tram line up the hill. You’ll find plenty of shops and boutiques to check out along the way. Once you’re near the top, you’ll reach Mahane Yehuda market where you can find delicious local cuisine. It’s a great place to get food and a few drinks and slowly digest all the sites you’ve just seen.

Day 2: Museums & Jerusalem’s Outskirts

Day 2 with 48 hours in Jerusalem will be just as busy. Due to its historical and religious relevance, Jerusalem is home to several great museums, so prepare to spend a lot of time on your feet. At least you’ll be protected from the blistering sun! If you’d rather spend the day visiting less popular spots, click 这里 to see where to go.

Museums

You could actually spend years in Jerusalem and never have enough time to properly take in all the incredible items within their museums. For those interested in Israel’s history, we recommend heading to The Israel Museum, especially if you want to see the Dead Sea Scrolls.

For those with an interest in the Holocaust, then you’re going to want to visit Yad Vashem. This is the world’s leading centre for Holocaust studies, and pays tribute to its victims. We recommend scheduling a guided tour to get the most out of your time here. Other notable museums to visit include: The Rockefeller Museum, the Wohl Archaeological Museum, and The Institute for Islamic Art.

Mount of Olives

In East Jerusalem you’ll find the Mount of Olives. You can either take a bus or walk to see century old Jewish graves and get a nice view over the Old City. There are also many churches to visit, and interesting archeologist sites at Mount of Olives. If you find yourself here during sunset, go to the west-facing viewpoint to watch the sun slowly set behind the Holy City. It’s a great way to wrap up your 48 hours in Jerusalem!
