1. Eat Your Way Around Markthal

This food mecca is a delicious rainy day activity in Rotterdam! Actually, it’s a great activity no matter the weather. Markthal is home to over 90 food stalls with a variety of treats for you to get stuffed on. Come rain or shine, the market is worth exploring and the food here is incredible. And you won’t only find just Dutch food; like many European markets, it also hosts a variety of international food vendors. While here you should definitely try some kibbeling (Dutch style fried fish) and pofferjes (similar to pancakes, but better). In fact, the best place in Rotterdam for them is next door at Poffertjessalon Seth, but you might get wet!

2. Take a Ride in The Spido

If you’re someone who doesn’t mind getting a bit wet, then what better place to do it than on a boat flying around the River Maas!? Taking a ride on The Spido is great whatever the weather, but if you’d rather stay dry, this might not be the best option for you. Tickets are less than 14€ and the ride lasts for 75 minutes boat ride. It’s easy on the wallet, and you’ll be rewarded with great views of Rotterdam’s famous architecture. A unique activity for a rainy day!

3. Visit the Famous Cube Houses

Who doesn’t love a wonky bright yellow house at a 45 degree angle? Piet Blom’s Cube Houses (Kijk-Kubus) are iconic architectural landmarks you have to check out in Rotterdam. While they’re great to see from the outside, if you’re looking for a rainy day activity, we encourage you to visit inside as well. Check out the bizarre interior, inspired by abstract art and modern urban planning. The Kijk-Kubus Museum-house is open daily from 10am to 6pm (except holidays).

4. Gin Tasting in Schiedam

If you’re a fan of gin, you’re in luck in Rotterdam! Just a short metro ride from Rotterdam is Schiedam – a network of historic warehouses on the waterways, as well as the world’s tallest windmill. Here you’ll get the opportunity to taste delicious gins while learning about 300 years of distilling history at the National Jenever Museum Schiedam. If you fancy another tipple then pop into the 325 year old Nolet Distillery for a vodka; it’s the towering home of Ketel One.

5. The Dutch Pinball Museum

This lesser known museum in Rotterdam is a big hit, and a truly unique rainy day activity. If you’re a fan of classic pinball, you’re going to love this place! Not only is it the stuff of childhood dreams – you can actually play on the machines and show off your skills. The museum is home to 100 pinball machines, and you can play on at least 80 of them. It’s basically a museum and arcade all in one, and we’re sure you’ll enjoy this experience!
