著名的欧洲旅舍: 阿姆斯特丹, 荷兰

Amsterdam is my hometown and the sixth stop of my one-month Famous Hostels Eurotrip

阿姆斯特丹 is one of those cities everyone knows about; the canal houses, millions of bicycles, local beers and amazing nightlife that attracts visitors from all around the world to the Dutch capital.

From London I took Eurostar to Brussels to then catch another train to Amsterdam. It was a beautiful 铁路 train journey through northern France and Belgium. I was very excited since I always like to go back home and spend some time cycling beside the canals.

I stayed at the 飞猪上城 hostel. This is one of the most popular hostels in Amsterdam with the best location you can think ofright next to the Vondelpark (one of our favourite parks), Museum Square and all main tourist sites. My room looked out over the park where the leaves of the trees had the most amazing autumn colours.

The hostel has a really cool bar and excellent service; you can literally WhatsApp reception if you have a question and are too lazy to walk down.

There is a Free Walking Tour that leaves from the hostel every morning and takes you to the must-see places in the city. Since I already know Amsterdam so well I decided to just cycle around and catch up with my family and friends. However, I do have a lot of tips on what you should do in the city. So pay attention, these are tips of a local!

I would recommend starting with the Free Walking Tour, which is a beautiful walk along the canals, famous squares and Red Light District. They will show you some of the museums you can visit such as the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank House. However, if you want to visit museums also think of the less famous ones, they are much cheaper, less crowded and often have an interesting story to tell. My favourite museums are the Dutch Resistance Museum and the Amsterdam Museum.

One of the best spots in Amsterdam is Brewery ‘t IJ, a local brewery in the eastern part of the city center.

The location is amazing as you get to try delicious beers right under a Dutch windmill (how iconic do you want it to be?). If you want to see more windmills you can catch the train to Zaanse Schans, where a couple of stunning windmills are lined up right next to the water. It’s beautiful scenery and only about 20 minutes from the city.

As you may know, Dutch people love cycling! Bicycles are the main way to get around in the city, so if you have any experience cycling you should really rent a bike to explore the area. You can catch a ferry the north of Amsterdam, which is a very trendy area. The ferries are free and you can even bring your bike. Make sure to visit the Amsterdam Tower (A’Dam Toren) from where you can swing over the edge of a massive building with the best view of Amsterdam. It’s one of the newest sites in Amsterdam and an awesome experience.

Next to that, I would recommend to just walk/cycle around the canals. In the end that is what I love most about Amsterdam.

There are nice cafes and restaurants at every corner of the street where you can sit down and try some of our local deep fried snacks (bitterballen). The nicest areas to go to are the Jordaan’, ‘9 Straatjes’ and the ‘Pijp’. Also check out the festivals, there are so many organized all year around and this week (18-22 Oct) there’s Amsterdam Dance Event, one of the biggest music festivals with 300 events and 2.000 DJ’s over 5 days in 80 clubs!

I had three amazing days in Amsterdam and left again with a backpack full of clean clothes (thanks mum!). I took the train to Copenhagen where I had such a cool experience as the train actually went on a ferry! I will write more about that soon! In the mean time make sure to follow my journey on the Famous Hostels Instagram!
