Famous Hostels Eurotrip: Rome, Italy
Incredible Rome – the 2nd stop of my month long Famous Hostels Eurotrip!
Rome, the centre of so much contemporary and religious history! The remains of the Empire can be found all around – wandering 罗马 leaves you speechless!
Getting to Rome
After exploring 雅典 I took the ferry to Italy with my 铁路间全球通行证. My pass included this ferry ride, and it was a cool experience to travel by sea. Since I’d never taken an overnight ferry before I was curious. There was even a restaurant, casino, and lounge area on the ferry!
亚历山德罗宫旅馆
I arrived at the 亚历山德罗宫旅馆 and was very happy to find out it was literally next to Termini station. While the hostel is well located, Rome is ancient and huge, so it’s best to buy a metro pass!
The hostel organises fun activities, such as a pub crawl three times a week. Everyone was raving about the pub crawl, so I’d definitely recommend it! They also have a great rooftop bar, which is the perfect place to meet other travellers, especially if you’re flying solo! The staff were always willing to give me tips, but the best one I got? Make sure you see everything both during the day, and at night. It’s really like seeing two different cities!
My Time in Rome
The night I arrived I went straight to the Trevi Fountain, and checked out some other places nearby. Rome is so beautiful at night! Afterwards, I went to the hostel’s rooftop bar. I easily made new friends, and enjoyed hearing about their experiences on their adventures!
The next morning I joined the Free Walking Tour. I always do walking tours as I think it’s the best way to see all the sites and meet other travellers. We started at the Spanish steps and walked all around the city to the Vatican. If you’re there on a Wednesday morning, The Pope gives a speech every Wednesday morning have a look! Hot Tip: If you’re planning to visit the Vatican get your tickets in advance; the queue is one of the longest I’ve ever seen!
After the walking tour a few of us walked to the Pantheon, Colosseum, Roman Forum, Villa Borghese, the monument of Victor Emanuel, and the Trevi Fountain. Since you can see all of these sites from the outside, Rome is actually quite cheap!
However, I wanted to see the inside of the Colosseum. A ticket is 10€, (7, 50€ for EU citizens under 26), and includes entrance to the Roman Forum and Paletine Hill. Buy a ticket online to skip the queue!
I loved seeing all the sites in 罗马; it’s such an amazing city. It’s like you’ve gone back in time, by thousands of years.
