Hostel Love Stories to Inspire You to Travel

Ever hear of a couple whose story started in a hostel? We’re bringing you some of our favourite love stories that started in some of our Famous Hostel locations!

What’s your dream scenario for meeting that special someone? For those with an adventurous soul, meeting them while travelling is likely high on that list. At one point or another, we’ve all probably dreamt up a rom-com scenario where you make eye-contact with a local hottie at a restaurant, a club, a museum – whatever. A conversation ensues, and sparks fly from that first ‘Hello’! And if you haven’t dreamt up that scenario, you’ve probably wondered if you’ll get lucky and sit next to them on a train, plane, or bus.

If you’ve ever stayed in a hostel, you already know how easy it is to meet new people. Sometimes these people become lifelong friends, sometime it’s only a temporary friendship, and in a very lucky circumstances, they become your lover. And truth be told, you’re much more likely to meet them in a hostel than you are in a hotel or AirBnB. So we really shouldn’t have to convince you where to call home while on the road, right?! Okay, let’s get into it and we’re going to spill the beans on some of our favourite hostel love stories!

Fransisco & Brigite – Hostel Love Stories to Inspire You to Travel

Venice, Italy

This story takes place at ANDA Hostel in the ever-popular Venice, Italy. Their names are Caterina and Charlee, and bad weather is what brought them together on August 14, 2020. Caterina is Italian, while Charlee hails from London, U.K. So how exactly did bad weather bring them together? It’s a cute story!

Well, Charlee had been travelling around Europe on a road trip with a friend, and had plans to visit the Dolomites. However, the weather had different plans. Rather than sulk about the lost opportunity, they decided to head to Venice instead.

Caterina, on the other hand, was at ANDA (specifically the Alai Life Bar) with some friends and her brother to celebrate his birthday. The two started talking and there was an instant connection.

Fast forward to today and the two are now living together in London. What an adorable and chance story, right?!

Caterina & Charlee

London, U.K.

This story comes from St. Christopher’s Hostel in jolly old 伦敦, 英国! And for privacy purposes, the lovers have requested a name change in the telling of their story. So how did this story come to be?

Well, Georgina and Christopher (not ironic at all the hostel has the same name!) met at the hostel about 6 months prior to us writing this piece. Both were staff members (love can happen at work, too!) and almost instantly, the rest of the staff noticed some flirting happening between them. But neither of them would make the first move.

Fast forward a few weeks, and some of the staff decided to head out on the town for a night. Over the course of the evening, both Georgina and Christopher confessed their feelings for each other to their colleagues. And like it always happens, it didn’t take long for everyone’s ears to be burning with this hot new (albeit expected) info. Within days, the two were an official unit!

But, does working together and dating make for an easy relationship?! Not at all! Especially in a hostel where sometimes stress runs high trying to ensure guests are taken care of and everything runs smoothly. But when you believe in love, are open to communication, and respect one another, love can bloom! And in case you’re wondering, Georgina and Christopher are currently looking for a place together. How sweet!

Porto, Portugal

This story started at 猫旅馆, in Porto, Portugal in April 2019, but is currently located in 西班牙毕尔巴鄂, at Latroupe La Granja Hostel. And it’s a sweet one!

Their names are Fransisco and Brigite, and just like the above story, also involves two staff members. Back in 2019 when Fransisco was newly hired as a receptionist at Cats Hostel, he couldn’t help but notice this cute and funny girl named Brigite. She also worked as a receptionist, but their paths never crossed due to scheduling and such.

But one day, that all changed. She was leaving her shift, as he was starting his, and he couldn’t help but notice her wearing a VERY familiar hoodie. In fact, Fransisco had the same one but assumed he lost it a month ago or so. This was when he knew he had a chance to break the ice and talk to her. He asked where she purchased her hoodie, and she told him that Housekeeping gave it to her one day as it was a Lost and Found item. He told her it was his hoodie, and asked if he could have it back, which she happily did!

That moment truly sparked something between them, and not long after, the two became a pair. 3 years, a pandemic, a country relocation, and new jobs at a new hostel later, the two are still happily together. He continues to tease her about the moment and she continues to wear his hoodies. How cute!

Fransisco & Brigite

Florence, Italy

This story takes place in the oh-so-romantic city of Florence. And it started on October 14th, 2021 between a Welsh girl and an Italian man. Rhian was already working at 奥斯特洛·贝洛, and Lorenzo was a new hire. As she arrived for her shift, she saw only what she can describe as an, ‘Italian Stallion’ standing behind the bar. The attraction for both parties was immediate, and a friendship began.

Rhian admittedly rushed to work every time they had a shift together, and the two would talk about anything and everything. They started taking day trips around Tuscany and would visit gorgeous spots such as Sienna or Lucca. At night, they’d grab a drink at the hostel, and while nightshift noticed the relationship blossoming, it remained a secret! Until Halloween…

In the darkness of the nightclub, they found themselves in, they decided that they were a great match and wanted to see where the relationship would go. So they made it official!

But not long after, it was time for Lorenzo to transfer to Rome. Rather than worry about what was to come, they decided to just live in the present and enjoy each other’s company as much as possible. But on his last day at the hostel, Lorenzo had an idea. He presented Rhian with a gift that consisted of tons of polaroid shots they had taken together in their short – but incredible – relationship. She cried at the gesture, but also at the prospect of having to say goodbye to him. So what did Lorenzo do? He decided to ask her if she was willing to try long distance. Of course she said yes!

And in case you were wondering, their polaroid collection continues to grow!
