Present in 23 countries, Europe’s Famous Hostels (EFH) is a great way to involve people from all over Europe and create awareness for a cause. Recently the brand decided to start investing in their social responsibility project by supporting a specific cause – bone narrow/stem cell donations with Team Margot Foundation.
“Europe’s Famous Hostels partnership with Team Margot Foundation builds upon the relationship that first began with one of EFH’s members, St Christopher’s Inns”, tells Yaser Martini, Margot’s father and founder of the Foundation.
This Foundation wants to encourage people worldwide to register as potential bone narrow / stem cell donors. Their aim is to facilitate this process and make it as quick as possible to save the lives of all those people who need this desperately. With more and more people joining worldwide, more patients are likely to find a matching donor! There are currently almost 80 stem cell registries in over 50 countries.
“As a European brand, Famous Hostels couldn’t just be aware of this cause and not get involved! That’s why the brand joined Team Margot Foundation to help spread the word to save more lives.”, stated Rui Magro Correia the General Manager of EFH.
Yaser states that “every 35 seconds, someone in the world is diagnosed with blood cancer; for many, a bone marrow transplant is their only chance of survival. However, before this can happen the patient must first be matched with a donor who has the same tissue type”
Currently, there is an urgent need for more people to join the registers as potential bone marrow donors, particularly those with a mixed heritage, or those from Black, Asian or minority ethnic communities. This is an urgent global need, so we are delighted at the partnership with EFH which provides a broader platform to appeal to people travelling across Europe, from all over the world.
“A patient only needs one donor. You might be the only one who can save their life.”, adds Yaser.
