You don’t need to be Portuguese to appreciate Fado.
If you want to experience the real Lisbon at night, then this activity is for you. With its colours, sounds and tastes, you won’t soon forget this experience. Our Fado and Dinner tour will take you across the city to the Alfama district where you can taste traditional Portuguese food and take in a live Fado performance.
Fado is a Portuguese word which means, ‘fate’ or ‘destiny’. It’s also the name of Lisbon’s most famous musical genre, “the song of Lisbon”, characterised by mournful tunes and grief-laden, soulful lyrics that transmit a strong feeling of nostalgia. The Fado tour starts by walking through the alleys and winding streets of old Lisbon, between the Mouraria and Alfama districts. These working class neighbourhoods is where Fado was born. Your amazing guide will explain the history and cultural importance of Fado, how it shaped mentalities in Portugal, as well as the Portuguese sense of identity.
The tour ends at a traditional Fado house where you’ll listen to the heartfelt melodies. Lose yourself in this magical atmosphere, and let yourself go between the chords of the guitar! While you enjoy the music, you’ll also have the chance to taste a truly authentic Portuguese dinner. With the homemade food, Portuguese wine, incredible music, and an amazing environment, you’ll get the real experience of a true Portuguese evening! The Fado and Dinner Tour is hugely popular so we advise to not leave booking last minute.
