Walking tour in Alfama and Sé Cathedral

The Sé Cathedral is a very large Romanesque-gothic church located in the Alfama district. It’s the oldest church in Portugal, and it’s the result of different architectural styles.

Alfama is the oldest neighborhood in Lisbon, dating from the Roman period. In this period it was a very poor district.

Today is one of the most famous and characteristic places in the city. Alfama is famous for its narrow streets and its colorful houses. It’s a very Instagrammable place!

Alfama is considered the heart of Lisbon because it retains the tradition of this city and its ancient history.

Don’t forget to attend a traditional fado show! Fado is a sad and melancholic traditional music of Alfama. You can have dinner in Case Do fado in Alfama and enjoy this typical romantic music.

From Alfama the walking tour continues to Praça do Comércio.

Praça do Comércio is one of the most large and beautiful squares in Europe.

Before 1755 this square didn’t exist and it was possible to find the Palacio Ribeira there. In that year there was a terrible earthquake which destroyed Lisbon and also the Palacio Ribeira. Later this place was replaced by this famous and appreciated square.

Here you will find Arco da Rua Augusta, a triumphal arch that separates Praça do Comércio from the Baixa, the center of Lisbon. This arch is a very tourist place and since 2013 you can take the elevator, climb the monument, and enjoy this special view!

Torre de Belém

Torre de Belém is the symbol of Lisbon and one of the most known places in Portugal. Originally, this tower was built as an entrance door to Lisbon, but also as a fort to protect from possible attacks.

It’s considered one of the best examples of the Manueline style, and it’s very appreciated by thousands of tourists who visit it every day.

You can visit the tower of Belem and don’t forget to take a selfie in front of it!

Monasterio dos Jerónimos

Just 5 minutes by foot from Torre de Belém you will find the Monasterio de los Jerónimos de Belém. It’s known as one of the best masterpieces in the world in the Manueline style. This is also the most visited place in Lisbon, in fact, you always have to queue for at least one hour to visit the monument.

Monasterio de los Jerónimos, not surprisingly, was declared Unesco cultural heritage in 1983.

What are you waiting for? Buy your ticket and enjoy this unique architectural work. You won’t regret it!
