We all would like not to have to worry about spending money. But often a careless spending habit, especially while traveling can mean missing out on opportunities to travel more. If you run out of money mid-trip it gets even worse. For these reasons budgeting your interrail trip, or any kind of trip, can really improve your traveling.

What is interrailing?

Interrailing is the practice of using trains with the help of an Interrail pass, all across the European Union. These passes can give you the freedom to choose where to travel and when. Those who use interrail usually either plan routes ahead and use a specific amount of travel days, or they do not plan and instead, just take the “unlimited travel days” pass and just head out into Europe.

Setting your priorities straight

Before you start budgeting your trip you should know what kind of trip you want to have, are you ok with spending the night in a very cheap but not luxurious place, or do you prefer a pricier but more luxurious accommodation? Europe’s Famous Hostels provide you with both ends of the spectrum. Knowing how much you are willing to spend beforehand is a good step to knowing your limits when spending your money on your trip.

To calculate the cost of traveling per country we published a survey on travel budgeting that looked at how many percentage points people give to different travel expenses per day. We then used this data to help calculate the cost of traveling with the help of accommodation costs and other major expenses to get a median budget for one travel day. according to the survey, people spend about 35% of their budget on accommodation. From this, we can get the value for the entire day, however we have to consider the other expenses as well therefore the cost can very even if two countries have the same costs for accomodation.
