Walking tour in Barcelona
The meeting point of this walking tour in Barcelona is Plaza de Catalunya, the most famous square of the city. Plaza de Catalunya is the starting point for visiting the main attractions of Barcelona. This square is surrounded by many bars, restaurants, stores, and hotels. It’s also very lively during the night.
Very close to this square, you can find La Rambla, the best-known street not only in Barcelona but throughout Spain. This street connects Plaza de Catalunya to the ancient port of the city. In the Rambla you’ll find many tourists walking around, and also many street artists, both during the night and during the day.
Casa Milà
The next monument of the tour that you’ll visit will be Casa Milà, a unique architectural work of its kind. Casa Millà also known as La Pedrera, was built by the architect Antoni Gaudì, a true genius who built real treasures such as this one.
This building is a very big house with many floors, precisely 9, and it was built for the Milà family from Gaudì. La Pedrera is so famous and visited especially for its facade, characterized by curved and wavy shapes. This structure recalls the movements of the sea waves.
You can visit La Pedrera and discover the fifth-floor apartment characterized by a modernist style. You can also go up to the roof of the house and admire the amazing creation of one of the best architects in the world: Gaudì.
The Sagrada Familia
Then the walking tour continues towards the Sagrada Familia, the most famous design of Antoni Gaudì. The Sagrada Familia is a very large basilica, under construction since 1882 and still not finished. Different materials are being used during the construction, which probably Gaudì wouldn’t have used.
Despite this, you will likely see the Sagrada Familia finished in the next few years!
This basilica has been declared a World Heritage site by Unesco in 2005 and it’s also the most visited attraction in Spain.
You must visit the Sagrada Familia inside to see what Gaudì has managed to build! Inside the church, all your eyes will be drawn by the amazing play of lights and colors. This is possible thanks to the light that enters through the windows and is reflected throughout the building.
Parc Guell
The last attraction of this walking tour is Parc Guell, another creation by Antoni Gaudì. Parc Guell is a very large city park, located in the Gracia district. It was built over 14 years and it was declared a World Heritage site by Unesco.
Inside the park, you can visit Museu Gaudì house, the house where Gaudì lived for his last 20 years. Don’t miss it!
During the visit to the park, you will find numerous figures of animals and geometric shapes that adorn this giant garden. Gaudì was inspired by nature and for this reason, he didn’t use classic ornamental figures. He preferred to use mosaics made with colored ceramic.
Thousands of people visit the park every day, so don’t forget to book your visit before!
La Barceloneta
Before leaving Barcelona, remember to leap the Barceloneta, the coolest district in the city. Here there are a lot of beaches, restaurants, and bars where you can spend your day to have some relax. It’s always full of tourists but also locals who like to sunbathe, swim and play beach volleyball.
The tour of the city ends here. Hope you enjoyed the visit and Barcelona!
