Best Rooftop Bars in Nice for sunset

If you’re looking for a place to enjoy the fabulous views of Nice after a day on the beach, then this list might be useful.

Sunset in Nice is an event, with crowds gathering along the Promenade to make the most of the evening views. The most popular spot is along the slightly elevated Pointe de Rauba- Capeu, in front of the easily recognisable #IloveNice sign. We recommend taking a bottle or a couple of beers and enjoying the full sweep of the Nice bay at sunset.

As an alternative, you can try any one of these amazing rooftop bars across Nice. Although traditionally Nice has not had much in the way of nightlife, times are changing. From the     rooftops, a different view of Nice emerges.  The mountains and the sea are visible, and Nice is where the two meet.

This list is a mixture of classics and new spots we hope you’ll enjoy.

Movida Bar

Movida, on the Promeneade has a salsa vibe about it. DJ’s often spin during the high season on the ground floor from sunset onwards, and dancing takes off later in the evening.

But the real magic, in our opinion, is the terrace on the 1st floor. Locals and tourists alike mix in the evenings to watch the crowds on the Promenade go by.  Generally there is always a space that frees up, if you can’t find one straight away. It’s worth asking the waiter to keep an eye out to hold you some chairs. Perched from here you get a bird’s eye view of the bay.

Meridian Hotel

The Meridian Hotel is just off the main square of Nice and offers stunning views of the Baie des Anges (Bay of Angels), as the coast of Nice is known. At 9 stories high, it has one of the best views of Nice, the sea, and the mountains behind. It is generally open late in the summer, and in off season until 10.30 pm. Dinner and drinks are pricey here. But for a sunset drink this is a perfect spot; cocktails cost around 15 euros, but they are professionally made and worth it. If you need a touch of luxury and a feel for the Riviera highlife, this is a great spot.

Le plongeoir

The Plongeoir is on the outskirts of town, on the far side of the port, but it definitely worth a visit. This is a popular spot in summer for locals, with a platform down below on the water for drinks which goes all evening. Before dinner and during the afternoon between service, you can ask to sit on the old diving platforms.

 Achill’s – Villefranche

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city of Nice, we recommend VIllefranche, just 10 minutes drive from Nice. You can take the tram to the port, and then the 100 bus connects you to this little fishing village next door.

Villefranche has a beautiful beach for a stroll or an afternoon swim. We recommend the little restaurant of Achill for sunset drinks, which has a terrace overlooking the bay. It’s a popular spot also for locals. Drinks are reasonably priced, the cocktails are top notch, and there’s often a DJ playing in the evenings. It would also be worth sticking around for dinner and trying either their fish or meat options on the grill.

Radisson Hotel

The Radisson is a decent stroll down the Promenade, but well worth it. You can also easily take the tram there. Similar to the Meridian Hotel that we recommend, its terrace is sky high, offering a stunning view of the mountains and the sea. On Thursday nights during the summer there’s a weekly party, with a DJ and a large crowd. Well worth checking out.

What is the best hostel in Nice?

If you are looking to be in the eye of the action, a few minutes from the blue waters of the French Riviera, you MUST stay at Villa St Exupery. Not only they managed to collect the best crew of individuals working at staying at, but they hold the most happening living room in town.
